Families Forward Transitional Housing
Providing transitional housing, for up to 2 years, to families who have graduated our Midland Interfaith Hospitality Network.
Homelessness has many causes and housing stability involves many solutions.
Families Forward Transitional Housing is designed to further assist and support families that have graduated from the Midland Interfaith Hospitality Network or similar case management programs. Upon acceptance, each family pays a monthly fee for a home that is owned and maintained by Family Promise of Midland. The first transitional home opened on December 20, 2013.
To date, we have 3 duplexes families call “home”. A summary of the Families Forward program follows:
Through the Families Forward Transitional Housing Program, Family Promise of Midland works with families that have participated in Midland Interfaith Hospitality Network, but are in need of continued rental subsidy, additional support, and case management services. The mission of Families Forward is to equip families to become self-sufficient and independent.
Family Promise of Midland gets to the heart of core needs, such as childcare and financial literacy, families face in order to regain self-sufficiency. Families Forward Transitional housing build off core tenets of the foundational shelter program itself, leading to efforts like food assistance, furniture and clothing donation, and health and wellness programs.
But our goal is not simply getting families into housing; it is keeping them in housing.
Key to this is identifying needs specific to our community and tapping into the diverse resources our volunteer pool and partnerships provide. The result is families no longer at risk of homelessness.
And, even more importantly, through programs we have launched for tenancy preparation, micro-entrepreneurship, and virtual career pathway training, we create the basis for security and stability that separates families from poverty and allows them and their children to aspire to the future every child deserves.
Family Promise of Midland changes lives. In Families Forward Transitional Housing, we served 33 parents and children in 2019, giving them the ability to realize their true potential.
